Dear Foodie Friends,
We’ve officially made it to the hump day of the year...hello, July! It’s time to celebrate our freedoms, our flavorful lifestyles, and the red, white, and food that make living in the USA so delicious.
Sure, the heat is on here in South Florida, but we say that’s just more reason to embrace the chill, literally! July happens to be National Ice Cream Month, and we’re scooping up ways to stay cool with refreshing sorbets, fruity cocktails, and simple summer recipes the whole family can enjoy. Whether you're relaxing poolside, hosting a backyard get-together, or just looking for a reason to treat yourself, this is your season.

Summer is also a time for connection. It’s when we gather with friends and family, celebrate milestones, make memories, and, of course, share good food. While there may not be a ton of outdoor foodie events happening this month, our local restaurants still need your support and we’re here to help make dining out (or dining in!) more exciting.

HOW I PICK RECIPES FOR YOU 

Each month, we spotlight recipes that feature fruits and vegetables at their peak—fresh, flavorful, and perfect for the season. I take time to research what’s currently in season here in Florida (and occasionally just beyond), cross-referencing trusted sources to ensure the ingredients we highlight are ripe and ready. It’s all about making the most of what nature’s offering—we encourage you to try out each delicious recipe one at a time. 

You Must Try This Refreshing Sorbet Recipe

Blackberry or Blueberry Coconut Sorbet

Ingredients
  • Berries (fresh or frozen): Either Blackberries or Blueberries bring a juicy burst of sweet and tart flavors that define this sorbet’s taste.
  • Coconut Milk (canned): Adds a creamy, tropical richness that perfectly complements the bright fruitiness of blackberries. We recomment using full-fat coconut milk to get the creamiest dairy-free sorbet.
  • Cane Sugar Syrup: This simple syrup can be found in the coffee section. You can also make your own simple syrup using water and cane sugar.
  • Lemon Juice: Provides a zesty touch that brightens the flavors of the coconut and blackberries while adding a refreshing tang.
Instructions:
  1. Add your berries to a high-speed blender. While you can use any berry you want in this sorbet recipe, using fresh blackberries will create a beautiful, vibrant color that’s hard to beat!
  2. Add cane sugar syrup to the blender next. 

  3. Add coconut milkIt adds just the right amount of cream, without going overboard. 
  4. Add lemon juice to the blender and mix it all together.
  5. Strain the blended ingredients in a fine mesh sieve and then transfer it to a freezer-safe bowl and place it in the freezer for about an hour.
  6. Remove from freezer and whisk it thoroughly, then put it back in the freezer.
  7. Repeat this step every hour until the sorbet is thick and scoopable. 
Hint:
If you leave it in the freezer too long it’ll be too hard to scoop (you’ll have to defrost it on the counter for awhile before serving). Scoop the finished sorbet into a dish and enjoy it with your favorite topping!

YOU MUST TRY THESE PITCHER-PERFECT 

COCKTAIL RECIPES

There’s something wonderfully refreshing about having a whole pitcher of cocktails ready to go—especially when the summer heat kicks in. Whether you're lounging by the pool or hosting friends for a backyard hangout, these big-batch drinks make it easy to stay cool and keep the vibes flowing. This month’s recipes make the most of juicy strawberries, bright citrus, and fresh berries, because nothing says summer like sipping something sweet and citrusy with zero stress.

Strawberry Lemonade Vodka Punch

Ingredients:

  • Pink lemonade flavored vodka.
    Strawberry Malibu rum
  • Malibu rum infused with strawberry flavor.
  • Pink Lemonade Concentrate – Thaw before adding.
  • Water – Helps thin out the lemonade concentrate.
  • Lemons and Strawberries – Every cocktail needs a fun garnish!
This vodka punch is so easy to make! Add all ingredients to a large pitcher and stir to combine. If serving right away, add ice to pitcher before adding ingredients to keep punch chilled. If making ahead of time, do not add ice before adding ingredients. Mix all ingredients in pitcher and refrigerate until ready to serve. When ready to serve, add ice to glasses and enjoy. Garnish glasses with sliced lemons and strawberries.

EASY WHITE WINE SANGRIA

Ingredients: 
  • Seasonal fresh fruits - can also use frozen fruit and you don’t have to thaw ahead.
  • White Wine of choice
  • Splash of carbonated beverage of choice
  • Ice Cubes (only added to glasses not pitcher)
Instructions: 
To make this ahead, by cutting up fruits, herbs and adding to a pitcher with wine.
Rrefrigerate this till you are ready to serve. 
To serve add sprite/ prosecco/ club soda and serve immediately. The refrigeration gives everything time to meld, and keeps it chilled. Don’t add ice to the pitcher or it’ll dilute the sangria. Instead, chill the wine, fruits and soda beforehand so that you have a cold glass of white sangria ready to drink.
