Dear Foodie Friends,

October is the month when the air feels slightly crisper, the evenings seem made for gathering, and the flavors of fall truly come alive. And the pumpkins, how beautiful are those orange gourds scattered throughout our Florida landscape? They not only look festive, they taste incredible. Beyond the pumpkin spice craze, these gourds shine roasted and caramelized on dinner plates, pureed into velvety soups, or folded into handmade pastas.
Front row left to right: Sam Ghanem ,Arielle Leavitt, Denise Righetti, Dannielle Kushel. Back row left to right: Stefanie Michelle, Yami Rial, Christina Stewart, Chelsea Jacobsen.
They also surprise in cocktails, adding a velvety depth that pairs perfectly with warm autumn spices. And when it comes to dessert, pumpkins take on a whole new personality. Imagine creamy mousses, custards laced with cinnamon, or cakes that transform this seasonal gourd into something elegant and celebratory.
This October, I’ll be hopping one state north with 10 other women for a true autumn experience. As the leaves turn every shade of pumpkin pie and butternut squash soup, we’ll be gathering at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Travel and hospitality marketing strategist Stefanie Michelle designed this retreat in the heart of Georgia’s wine country to be an intentional reset for female business owners. With the upscale Mountaintop Lodge as our base, we’ll spend our days masterminding, but also deepening friendships through soul-nourishing activities like forest yoga, a sunrise hike, waterfall walk, and sound healing. Of course, the retreat wouldn’t be complete without five star dining and local wine tasting at some truly special family-owned vineyards. I can’t think of a better way to usher in the season of fall!

Closer to home, I’m reminded that dining out with family and friends should feel easy and joyful, not stressful. That’s where Savor Our City shines. We handle the details so you can simply be present at the table, whether it’s a guided tasting, a private event, or one of our upcoming community celebrations.
As the days grow shorter and the flavors grow richer, I invite you to savor every bite, every sip, and every moment this October. Let us make your gatherings seamless, festive, and delicious.
With gourd-geous wishes for the season,

Denise Righetti

The Gourd's Truth About Pumpkins

Pumpkin spice may steal the spotlight every October, but have you ever stopped to wonder what exactly a pumpkin is? Here’s the scoop: pumpkins are actually a type of gourd! Both pumpkins and their bumpy, colorful cousins belong to the Cucurbitaceae family — which also includes cucumbers, melons, and all sorts of squash.

The big difference comes down to use. Gourds are usually grown for their sturdy, inedible shells, making them perfect for fall decorating. They shine on porches, in centerpieces, and anywhere you want to add rustic autumn flair. Pumpkins, though, bring the flavor. Their smooth orange skin and sweet, versatile flesh make them a star in pies, soups, breads, and yes… your latte. Even the seeds are snack-worthy when roasted.

So this month, while you sip your PSL and pick out a porch full of gourds, remember: pumpkins are the tasty members of the gourd family — the ones that go from patch to plate while their cousins stick to décor duty.
Gourds Gone Glam  - Pumpkins aren’t just for carving, you must try these painted and flower-covered designs to turn them into centerpieces worthy of your autumn table.

YOU MUST TRY THESE PUMPKIN RECIPES:

Stuffing-Stuffed Mini Pumpkins

Ingredients
1 loaf sourdough bread, about 1 pound
8 to 12 miniature pumpkins
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons Diamond kosher salt, more as needed for seasoning the pumpkins
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, more as needed for seasoning the pumpkins
3 ounces (6 tablespoons) unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups diced onion
1 cup diced celery
2 medium tart apples, such as Granny Smith, peeled and diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh sage
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh thyme leaves
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh rosemary
1 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 cups vegetable broth, more as needed
3 large eggs, beaten
8 ounces Gruyère cheese, grated
1 cup dried cranberries, optional
Instructions:
Pre-heat Oven to 250 F.
Cut or tear bread into small pieces, then bake 20-30 minutes until dry. Set aside.
Increase oven temperature to 400 F. Prepare pumpkins - Slice 1/3 off the tops; scoop out the seeds and fibers.
Brush insides and lids lightly with olive oil and sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.
Place lids on pumpkins, and bake until slightly tender, 20 to 25 minutes. Set aside when done.
In a large skillet melt butter then sauté chopped ingredients 6 to 8 minutes  or until onions are translucent and apples are tender.
Add cooked ingredients to the bowl of dried bread. Add cream and broth, salt and pepper to taste; stir to combine.
Whisk eggs adn then add them to the mixture and mix  with a spoon until blended. Fold in cheese and dried cranberries.
decrease oven temperature to 375 F. Put about a 1 cup of stuffing in each mini pumpkin.
Place lids propped on the on side of stuffed pumpkins and bake 40 minutes.

Homemade Pumpkin Hummus

I just love snacking on this seasonal twist on the classic chickpea dip, featuring pumpkin puree for a sweet and earthy flavor. It is typically made by blending canned pumpkin puree with chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and warm spices like cumin and cinnamon.
Ingredients
1 15-ounce can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1 15-ounce can pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling!)
2 cloves garlic, minced or grated
½ lemon, juiced

⅓ cup tahini
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup (optional)
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
pinch cayenne pepper
¼ cup olive oil

¼ cup ice water

For serving as desired: extra olive oil, pomegranate seeds, toasted pepitas, finely chopped fresh rosemary, sliced apples, sliced carrots, pita chips, root veggie chips

Instructions:
Add the chickpeas, pumpkin purée, and garlic to the bowl of a food processor, pulsing a few times to break everything up into small pieces.
Add in the lemon juice, tahini, maple syrup, kosher salt, cumin, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. Turn the processor on. With the food processor running, slowly stream in the olive oil, then allow the processor to run for good 2-3 minutes. The hummus will break down into a creamy mixture with some fine pieces, but it should definitely look like a chunkier hummus at this point! With the processor running, slowly add the ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time. This is when the hummus will begin to really smooth out. Add more/less water until the desired texture is reached.

Serve the pumpkin hummus in a bowl topped with an extra drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle of finely chopped fresh rosemary or pomegranate seeds.
Serve with pita chips, sliced apples, or root veggie chips. Enjoy!
